The Training Division is under the direction of Division Chief Brian Kazmierzak. This division plans and directs all of the training efforts of the department and it’s full time and part time firefighters, including needs assessment, curriculum development, scheduling, and records management.
The Training Division coordinates its activities in conjunction with Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Hazardous Materials, and Tactical Rescue (Special Ops) training to administer state mandated continuing education classes. Firefighters attend training classes on fire, hazardous materials, water rescue, and emergency medical treatment, tactical rescue, WMD/Terrorism response, and mass causality incidents throughout the year at various fire departments and IDHS District 2 locations. Courses on supervisory development, new products, apparatus and other specialized training are conducted on an as needed basis. Courses are taught by Division Chief Brian Kazmierzak or other department certified instructors. The department uses internal and external resource instructors as well to help coordinate these trainings.
The Training Division is responsible for managing the wide range of training-related documents, reports, and records necessary for maintaining required certifications for the department’s emergency response personnel. The division regularly monitors the activities of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to stay abreast of mandatory changes in training and certification requirements.
The Training Division is also responsible for the overall safety and compliance for all members of the fire department. Safety is a part of every aspect of the Penn Township Fire Department, from purchasing protective equipment to emergency incidents to managing personnel records. We continue our efforts to find the safest methods for our firefighters in which to work and train.
