Penn Firefighters spent the entire month of November training on Emergency Vehicle Operations in both a classroom and practical training to increase their knowledge, skills and abilities in this area. Here are some photos from the training.
On Tuesday 11/13/12 C-Shift Squads 2161/2162, Battalion 21, 2102 and Clay Engine 244 were dispatched to a shed fire on Flamingo Ct in northwestern Penn Twp. Upon arrival companies found that the owner had already extinguished most of the fire. Penn and Clay units checked the interior of the shed for extension.
On Tuesday 11/13/12 C-Shift Squad 2162, Medic 13 and Battalion 21 were dispatched to a report of an injury accident at Bittersweet & McKinley. Upon arrival Squad 2162 found a 2 vehicle head on crash with the drivers of both vehicles injured. Penn units provided pt care to the victims and were assisted at the scene by Clay Medic 45.
On Sunday 11/11/12 at 1530hrs C-Shift was dispatched to a reported shed fire in the 10400 block of Glenwood. Upon arrival Squad 2162, 2102 and Battalion 21 found a fully involved shed fire, with extension to a second shed on the property and nearby woods. Squad 2162 stretched a 1.75″ crosslay and quickly gained control of the fire. The shed was a total loss, valued at approximately $7500. Due to the heavy winds, C-Shift has been kept busy by leaf fires extending into woods, houses, etc today as well as power lines down.
On Sunday 11/11/12 at 1150hrs the Penn Twp. was dispatched to a reported grass fire at 10389 McKinley.· Initial arriving units found that the grass fire had extended into a house, garage, fence, and several yards.· Units immediately requested a residential fire response and began extinguishing the house and garage fires using (2) 1.75″ hose lines.· The property owner had been burning leaves at the time and due to the very high wind gusts the fire spread out of control quickly to his garage and yard, the neighbor’s garage and yard, and the Indiana Excavating property and black drainage pipe storage area behind his property.· PTFD used approximately 5,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.
Estimated damage to all properties involved is approx.. $15,000.· Penn Twp. FD was assisted at the scene by Clay Fire Territory E-245, Cleveland Twp. FD Tanker 8, St. Joseph Co PD, and St. Joseph Co VEST.
